Industries and applications

Twelve industries, one manufacturing principle: the version follows your measuring point.

Temperature is measured everywhere — and the requirements differ every time. In chemicals it is the resistance of the thermowell that counts, in the laboratory the response time, in the furnace the material, in mechanical engineering reproducibility over years. That is why we have been manufacturing to drawing, to sample or to description since 1970, from a single piece to a series — and supply connection heads, thermowells, cables and transmitters along with it.

Chemicals & petrochemicals

Chemical industry plant

Small, robust and resistant — those are the requirements in chemical processing. Pt100 and Pt1000 as well as sheathed thermocouples are used most often, protected by a thermowell to DIN 43772. The material and wall thickness of the protective fitting allow the sensor to be used even where the sheath or the measuring resistor would be attacked — in sulphurous vapours, for example. For potentially explosive areas we supply intrinsically safe versions under our own approval.

Pharmaceuticals & biotechnology

In pharmaceuticals and biotechnology the documentation counts as much as the measurement. We manufacture from traceable materials, supply a works certificate and works calibration with a test report on request and keep surfaces smooth and free of gaps. Typical measuring points are fermenters, autoclaves, clean media lines and cold or freezer stores. Since taking over the temperature measurement business of Schramm GmbH we also continue their series from this field.

Food & beverages

Food production

Hygiene is the central requirement here. We manufacture from stainless steel with smooth, easy-to-clean surfaces; the measuring systems are sealed up to protection class IP68. Together with connection heads, thermowells and cables we supply the complete system — for baking and confectionery processing, meat and fish processing, dairy technology as well as beverage filling and its packaging machines.

Plastics & extrusion

Plastics processing

In plastics processing the temperature usually stays below +600 °C — which is why Pt100 and Pt1000 are the first choice. Measurements are taken on injection moulding machines, extruders, melt pumps, dies and in granulate production. Special designs are created here regularly together with the customer: melt sensors with a defined immersion depth, miniature sensors for tight dies, sensors with a permanently routed cable.

Energy, power plants & hydrogen

Power generation

Precise and permanently reliable measurement is the requirement here — in hydro, wind, biomass and geothermal power as much as in fossil-fired plants. Measurements are taken on steam and feedwater lines, in flue gas ducts, on cooling circuits and increasingly on electrolysers and compressors in hydrogen technology. Depending on the temperature, Pt100 sensors or type K and N thermocouples are used; above 800 °C type N is the lower-drift choice.

Furnaces, heat treatment, glass & foundry

Industrial furnace

In the high-temperature range the thermowell decides the service life. It protects the measuring element against mechanical load and against the furnace atmosphere. We advise on the choice: a metal tube in 1.4841, 1.4762, Alloy or Kanthal, or ceramic C610 or C799 where metal scales or softens. Our customers include foundries, heat treatment shops and annealing plants, wire drawers as well as ceramic and glass manufacturers.

Mechanical & plant engineering (OEM)

Mechanical engineering

In mechanical and plant engineering the sensor usually has a monitoring or control function and is a fixed part of the machine. That is exactly what our production is made for: a version to drawing, reproducible over years, with the same cable length and the same connector. No minimum order value — the first samples come as single pieces, the series afterwards from the same production.

Automotive & test benches

Test bench in vehicle engineering

Test-bench builders and operators have been among our customers from the very beginning. In brake testing in particular we have been a supplier for decades: sliding thermocouples that rest spring-loaded on the brake disc, drive-in and caulk-in sensors for the friction lining and sensors for brake fluid. Added to this are special designs for testing and development projects, usually as a small series to drawing.

Heating, ventilation, refrigeration & buildings

In building and plant services the point is reliable measurement over long periods at moderate temperatures. Typical measuring points are the flow and return of heating circuits, buffer tanks, duct and room air, refrigeration plants and heat pumps. What is needed are clamp-on sensors with a tension band, immersion sensors in thermowell sleeves and cable sensors with a permanently routed cable — often as a Pt1000, because the influence of the cable stays smaller over long runs.

Pumps, gearboxes & turbines

On rotating machines temperature is measured for condition monitoring: plain and rolling bearings, oil sump and oil feed, cooling circuits of pumps, gearboxes, compressors and turbines. Pt100 sensors in a thermowell sleeve or as a small-diameter sheathed sensor are usual, often as a duplex version for display and shutdown, sometimes with a head-mounted transmitter for a 4–20 mA signal.

Laboratory, measurement & testing

Laboratory and test engineering

In the laboratory and in test engineering a short response time and tight limit deviation count. What is needed are thin sheathed sensors from Ø 1.0 mm, a 4-wire connection and accuracy classes down to 1/10 DIN cl. B. Typical applications are test set-ups, climate chambers, autoclaves, thermostats and reference measuring points. On request we supply the sensors with a works calibration and test report at the measuring points you specify.

Semiconductors, vacuum & electronics

In semiconductor and vacuum technology the installation space and cleanliness are the constraints. What is needed are very thin mineral-insulated sheathed sensors, bent to drawing, with a sheath material of 1.4571 or Inconel and cables in PTFE or Kapton. Typical measuring points are process and vacuum chambers, hot plates in wafer handling, drying and soldering systems as well as test stations in electronics production.

Potentially explosive areas

ATEX is not an industry but a requirement that can arise in almost every one of the twelve. Whether intrinsically safe sensors have to be used is laid down by the plant's risk assessment. Our measuring inserts and sheathed sensors carry their own EU type-examination certificate and, depending on the version, are approved for zones 0 to 2 and zones 20 to 22.
