Pt100 and Pt1000 resistance thermometers

Manufacturer from Hanau since 1970 — ATEX and IECEx under our own certification, single units to series.

A resistance thermometer measures temperature via the electrical resistance of a platinum sensor. GHI manufactures Pt100 and Pt1000 sensors to DIN EN 60751 — from measuring inserts for existing thermowells and bendable sheathed resistance thermometers to thermowell thermometers with flange to DIN 43772. For hazardous areas we supply intrinsically safe versions with GHI's own ATEX and IECEx approval. You specify diameter, insertion length, process connection, cable and connector; we build to your drawing, your sample or your description.

ATEX and IECEx — intrinsically safe up to zone 0, under our own certification

GHI is itself an ATEX manufacturer. The EU type-examination certificate EPS 25 ATEX 1 060 X and the IECEx certificate IECEx EPS 25.0012X (Bureau Veritas, notified body 2004) are issued to GHI — the WME measuring inserts and WML sheathed resistance thermometers carry our own marking. No third-party certificate, no bought-in parts, and the Ex version adds no extra lead time.

Which sensor suits your measuring point?

The design almost always follows from the installation. Choose the row that matches your measuring point — the design page has a separate page for each series with dimensional drawing, technical data and configurator.

Resistance thermometers in detail

Pt100 or Pt1000 — which fits better?

A Pt100 has a resistance of 100 Ω at 0 °C and is the industry standard. A Pt1000 gives 1,000 Ω at 0 °C. The ten-times higher resistance reduces the influence of the connecting cable — useful wherever long cables are run or 2-wire measurement is used. We make both in the same designs.

Accuracy classes to DIN EN 60751

The class defines how far the sensor may deviate at a given temperature. The tolerance increases with temperature:

  • Class AA: ± (0.10 + 0.0017 · |t|) °C
  • Class A: ± (0.15 + 0.002 · |t|) °C
  • Class B: ± (0.30 + 0.005 · |t|) °C
  • 1/3 DIN class B: one third of the class B tolerance
  • 1/10 DIN class B: one tenth — for test benches and reference measurements

2-, 3- or 4-wire circuit

In a 2-wire circuit the cable resistance enters the measurement in full. The 3-wire circuit compensates for it and is the usual choice in process engineering. The 4-wire circuit eliminates it completely and is used for reference and laboratory measurements. At Ø 6.0 mm, 2 × 4-wire is also possible.

Thin-film or ceramic wire-wound

Thin-film resistors are the standard: small, fast and insensitive to vibration. We use ceramic wire-wound elements where high temperatures or long-term stability are required. Unless specified otherwise, we supply thin-film.

Materials, temperature and process connection

Thermowells and sheaths in 1.4571 (F316Ti), 1.4404 (F316L) and Alloy C-4, other materials on request. Depending on the design, Pt sensors measure up to +600 °C; above that, thermocouples take over. Process connections: G 1/2", G 3/4", G 1", 1/2" NPT and special threads, plus flanges DN 25–DN 50 in PN 16 and PN 40.

Calibration and testing

On request we supply the sensor with factory calibration and test report at agreed measuring points. Insulation testing and an inspection certificate are also available — please state the required scope of testing in your enquiry.

Made in Hanau

GHI has been building temperature sensors since 1970 and manufactures at its Hanau site. Since January 2025 we have also continued the series of Schramm GmbH's temperature measurement business — so replicas to old drawings or from a returned sample are possible, even if the sensor is decades old.

Higher than +600 °C?

Above around 600 °C, thermocouples take over. Types K and N measure up to +1,100 °C, with ceramic protection tube up to +1,300 °C.
