Temperature sensors for test benches and automotive

Temperature measurement on the test bench and in vehicle testing makes different demands from process engineering: the measuring point sits on a moving or hard-to-reach component, the temperature jumps within seconds, and the sensor has to withstand vibration, brake dust and brake fluid.

For these cases we make five designs: two sliding thermocouples for the brake disc, a plug-in and drive-in sensor for the pad and the component, a screw-in sensor for the brake fluid and a black-standard thermometer for weathering tests. The four proven designs have been in use in brake test benches and test vehicles for decades; the TAM-4 adds a spring clip for road testing.

We manufacture in Hanau to your specification — lengths, cables, connectors and threads freely selectable, single pieces and rebuilds to sample or drawing included.

All thermocouples are type K (the TAM-3 also type N), the measuring junction either grounded or isolated. Connection as a free end or a mini thermocouple plug in IEC green or ANSI yellow.

Connection and cable

Thermocouple plugs
Mini thermocouple plugs come in the standardised colour: green to IEC 60584-3 and yellow to ANSI. Both variants can be chosen for the TAM-1, TAM-2 and TAM-3, as can the plain cut free end for your own wiring.

Cable
FEP with a Cu braid is the standard cable on the test bench, glass fibre withstands up to 600 °C, silicone is particularly flexible. The operating temperature in the order keys applies to the measuring point — the cable has to lie outside the hot zone or be selected accordingly.

Sheathed thermocouples and sheathed resistance thermometers for general test-bench use can be found under Sheathed thermocouples und Mineral-insulated resistance thermometers.
