Thermocouple measuring inserts for thermowells
The measuring insert is the inner life of a thermowell thermometer: a mineral-insulated sheathed cable with the measuring element at the tip, spring-loaded in the connection head. It can be changed during operation without removing the thermowell and without opening the process — that is the real reason for the two-part construction.
We supply measuring inserts as a replacement for existing thermometers and for retrofitting, to suit thermowells to DIN 43772 and connection heads form A, B, J and BUZ. The installation dimensions correspond to the Schramm T91 series — existing sensors can therefore continue in use without modification.
What you need for the order
| Detail | Why | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| Measuring insert length MEL | determines where the measuring tip sits in the thermowell | nominal length of the thermowell plus neck tube — or measure the old insert |
| Sheath diameter | has to fit into the inner tube | Ø 3 mm for slim tubes, Ø 6 mm standard |
| Connection | block for a connection head, strands for tight heads, transmitter for 4…20 mA | to suit the existing connection head |
| Ex zone | decides the type of protection | from the plant's explosion protection document |

Replacement during operation
Open the connection head, loosen the screws on the block, pull the insert out, put the new insert in — the thermowell stays in the process, the plant keeps running. The spring presses the measuring tip against the bottom of the tube and keeps the heat transfer the same after the change.
If the old measuring insert length is no longer known: the nominal length of the thermowell and the form of the connection head are enough for us to work it out.
