Melt temperature sensors, thermocouple, for extruders and tools

The melt temperature sensor measures the temperature directly in the polymer melt — in the extruder, the melt pump, the screen changer or the tool. The thermocouple sits in a solid bolt that takes the pressure; the standard 1/2"-20 UNF bore has been established in machine building for decades.

What decides the response time is how the measuring tip sits in the bolt: brazed in it reacts fastest, insulated with ceramic or PEEK it separates the signal galvanically from the machine potential.

TMF — melt temperature sensor, thermocouple

Screw-in sensor for extruders and tools · type J, K, L · up to +500 °C

Version TMF

Version (example) · dimensions to your specification

Screw-in melt temperature sensor for measuring the melt temperature directly in extruders, melt pumps, screen changers, adapters and tools. Measuring element in a solid stainless steel bolt – as a thermocouple (TMF) or Pt100 (WMF) with identical installation dimensions, measuring tip brazed in, ceramic, PEEK or PTFE insulated, as a tungsten carbide tip or flat. As the MTS 2000 version with a LEMO connector, jet-water protection and a test report.

  • Extruders, melt pumps, screen changers, adapters
  • Compounding, film and pipe extrusion
  • Injection moulding, food and pharmaceutical extrusion
  • TMF: short response time, up to +500 °C
  • WMF: high accuracy, up to +500 °C
  • Measuring tip brazed in or insulated (ceramic, PEEK, PTFE)
  • Tungsten carbide tip for abrasive melts

H · brazed in
Measuring tip silver-brazed in the melt bolt – best heat transfer, shortest response time
K · ceramic insulated
insulated from the bolt by ceramic – galvanically isolated, high temperature resistance
P · PEEK insulated
insulation in the high-temperature plastic PEEK – galvanically isolated, little heat conducted away through the bolt
F · flat measuring tip
flush with the sealing face – no influence on the melt flow, no deposits
T · PTFE insulated
insulation in PTFE – galvanically isolated, chemically resistant, for lower process temperatures
W · tungsten carbide tip
wear-resistant carbide tip for glass-fibre and mineral-filled, abrasive melts
Galvanic isolation from the machine potential (earth loops, interference voltages) via the insulated versions K, P, T; the shortest response time with the brazed-in
version H.
